Letter to Hamilton Spectator - they titled it: "Israel is the bully of the Middle East"

Re: Peace coalition should consider Iran (Letters, Jan. 7) and Iran is the threat, not Israel (Letters, Jan. 4)

I am a Palestinian-Canadian originally from the West Bank. Iran didn't move into the West Bank in 1967 and recently build a wall through it, rendering my family's farm virtually inaccessible to our ancestral home. Israel did. Iran didn't arrest my brothers and jail them for long periods without charges or trials. Israel did. Iran didn't allow armed settlers to beat up our neighbours, burn their olive trees, and squat on their lands. Israel did. Iran didn't use chemicals, such as white phosphorus, on our cousins in Gaza in 2008 during Operation Cast Lead, causing the deaths of 1,500 civilians, including 400 children. Israel did — without a critical word from Stephen Harper's government.

Iran has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel hasn't. Iran was the world's first state to call for a nuclear weapons-free Mideast. Israel (and the U.S.) opposed the idea.

If Israel has been exposed as a bully of the Mideast, why do the letter writers blame the Hamilton Coalition To Stop The War? The pro-Israel lobby must stop its venting and instead demand that Israel abide by international law.
